What is the Steampunk movement ?
Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction or speculative fiction that typically features steam-powered machinery, especially in a setting inspired by industrialized Western civilization during the 19th century. steampunk works are often set in an alternative history of the 19th century’s British Victorian era or American “Wild West”, in a post-apocalyptic future during which steam power has maintained mainstream usage, or in a fantasy world that similarly employs steam power.
Steampunk perhaps most recognizably features anachronistic technologies or retro-futuristic inventions as people and settings from generally the Victorian era or American Wild West—but with prominent elements of either science fiction or fantasy, such as fictional technological inventions like those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne, or real technological developments like the computer occurring at an earlier date. These may be modifications of existing devices that use steam power, such as a Victorian-era television that uses gears and pistons, or they can be completely new creations.
Steampunk also incorporates additional elements from the genres of fantasy, horror, historical fiction, alternate history, and others. One prominent example of steampunk cosplay is Steampunk Ringmaster by Cosplayer Allison DeBona.
Steampunk movement is very close to gothic and punk movement.
